Stage 1 Complete

Is it Murphy's Law that says, if something can go wrong, it will? Well, we have had some interesting times wrapping things up here in Abu Dhabi. One of which being some problems with our van that we are selling before we leave. It was having some AC problems (not a happy thing with our year-round heat), and was running a little rough, so we had to take it to the shop. Taking a vehicle to the mechanic is not a fun thing. It is located aways out of the city, and the customer service is a nightmare. No one returns phone calls, and the customer is often left hanging for days, while they figure out the problem. We lucked out, however, because the problem was a pretty simple fix, the parts were in stock in Dubai (it takes weeks when they have to order from the US), and they should be able to fix it in time to hand over the pink slip. In the meantime, we needed wheels to get us to church on Friday, and to Dubai today. The girls and I are staying with my dad (who lives in Dubai and works for the same university as Jon) while Jon clears out our apartment and finishes his week of finals. We asked some friends if we could borrow their car, and they graciously said, "Sure!" So nice of them. Thank you, ADCooks!


So here we are loaded up, ready to go to Dubai, before the web was stretched over our luggage on the roof. We had so much stuff to take with us. Jon is a genius at packing (He did work at UPS while we were dating), and got it all in no problem. We had a nice lunch at the mall when we got here, then the girls jumped in the pool as soon as we got to grandpa's. They are loving the satellite TV (we didn't even have local TV), and the feeling of being on vacation. My dad went all out to make us feel comfortable, and get everything ready for us. Now I have a week to shuffle the stuff around in our boxes, and get the 50 lbs just right, and probably have a couple boxes left over for my mom and dad to bring over at a later time for us. I wanted to purge big time, but I just couldn't let go of it all!
